   Discovery Box Loan Collection

  Enrich your school year with Greater Newark Conservancy’s Discovery Box Loan Collection.
  Engage your students in hands-on, inquiry driven lessons designed to add interest and
  variety to your curriculum. All Discovery Box lessons meet the New Jersey
  Core Curriculum Content Standards.

  What is a Discovery Box?

  A Discovery Box is a learning trunk filled with one month’s worth of lessons and
  lesson materials. Each Discovery Box contains:

  • A detailed Teacher’s Manual, including background information, lesson plans correlated
    to the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards, vocabulary lists, references, and more.

  • Display materials such as posters, artifacts, biofacts, scientific equipment, maps, and books
  • consumable lesson materials for 25 students.


  Themes of Discovery Boxes:

      Asthma Information - skill levels grades K – 3
      Increase awareness of asthma, properties of air and the respiratory system
      Environment and Your Body - skill levels grades 2 – 3
      Investigate the impact of pollution on human body systems

      Food Science – skill levels grades 5 – 8
      Study nutrition and the science of food product development

      Lead Awareness - skill levels grades 4 – 8
      Trace the history of lead and its impact on human health

      Lenape Life - skill levels grades 3 – 6
      Unearth the rich culture of the Lenape people

      Managing Our Garbage - skill levels grades 5 – 8
