Why Should you Donate to Greater Newark Conservancy?
In Newark , more than one-fourth of the residents, and over one-third of all children,
live below the poverty level. Schools are hard-pressed to serve the needs of their
students and Newark ranks last out of 24 Northeast cities in children's environmental
stress. Newark is the third most densely populated city in New Jersey. There is only
one-sixth acre of park-land for every 1,000 residents and many streets are barren of trees.
Several neighborhoods lack parks and other safe community open spaces where children can
play and neighbors can gather.
Despite these statistics, the Greater Newark Conservancy is part of a dedicated community-wide effort
and spirit to revitalize Newark and improve the quality of life in the City. Since 1987, the Conservancy
has been working in partnership with community groups to educate, train, and support the community in creating
environmentally safe neighborhoods through grassroots education and training, community organizing, and job training.
