Teach Your Children About the Environment We all Share!

Whether you live in a suburban town or a big city, learning how to care for the environment is something important that we can all share. Students who participated in this summer's Vacation Bible School (VBS) at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Chatham explored how to protect and love the earth. Just as important, they learned about helping others in need.
"Most of us in Chatham are fortunate enough to have our own backyards, and we planted a seed each day to take home for a vegetable garden," said Carolyn Dempsey, Gloria Dei's VBS Director. " We realize that not all children have that luxury, so we chose Greater Newark Conservancy as our mission."
Each day, the children brought in spare change with the goal of raising $100 to buy seeds for one of the Conservancy's community gardens in Newark. In these gardens, inner-city residents can raise their own fresh produce. The children were thrilled to achieve and even exceed their goal by raising a total of $130.93!
"On behalf of the congregation of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Pastors Eric and Wendolyn Trozzo, and the children and volunteers of the 2011 Vacation Bible School, we thank Greater Newark Conservacy for bringing gardens to the city and for helping to keep God's earth green," Dempsey concluded.
With our community greening projects, urban farms, environmental education programs for children and adults and so much more happening in Newark, there are lots of opportunities to support the Conservancy's mission ... just like our friends in Chatham!
