Youth Farm Stand
Each year thousands of pounds of produce is grown at our urban farm on Hawthorne Avenue. Our urban farm produces, quite literally, tons of fresh fruits and vegetables each year right here in Newark's South Ward. Lucky for Newark residents, all of those delicious goods can be purchased through our Youth Farm Stands.
With the global COVID-19 pandemic, good nutrition and access to healthy food is more important than ever. We want to continue providing fresh fruits and veggies to our community. With that in mind, we will still be operating our Youth Farm Stands for the 2020 season, however, with some modifications to ensure the safety of staff and visitors.
When visiting our Farm Stands, please be sure to wear your mask and maintain social distancing protocol, with only one customer being served at a time. Please refrain from touching the produce—one of our staff will pick produce, pack, and weigh your purchase while another will ring up and take your payment.
We will continue to offer weekly farm stands at locations throughout the city. As of July 2020, here is our weekly schedule:
- Hawthorne Avenue Farm: from 3:30-5:30pm on Tuesdays
- 13th Avenue School Garden: from 10am-1pm every other Thursday; September 3, September 17, October 1, October 15, October 29
- Newark City Hall Rotunda: from 10am-1pm every other Thursday; August 27, September 10, September 24, October 8, October 22
- Greater Newark Conservancy from 3pm-6:30pm on Fridays and Saturdays, September 12 and October 17 from 10am-1pm
Dates and times are subject to change based on weather. Follow us on Facebook and Instagram for the most up-to-date information on Pop-Up Markets, weather related postponements, and weekly produce availability.
This season we’re very excited to offer online ordering and pickup for the first time! As part of the Urban Agriculture Cooperative, a food hub model where we “harvest to order” to reduce potential food waste. Online ordering will take place Thursday through Monday. Produce will be available from a number of local growers, including the Conservancy. Once you place your online we will prepare your order for pick up.
