Audible Transforms Washington Park with Community Partners
by Marisa Lunde

Have you seen the newly-installed colorful and interactive art exhibit at Washington Park? This pop-up project—dubbed the Washington Park Sensory Lab—was spearheaded by Audible to curate a sensory experience in a public greenspace. The installation was completed in early June and features 538 hexagons splayed together to create walkways, benches, tables and garden beds.

Audible spent weeks designing the layout and vision of the Sensory Lab. When the time came, our City Bloom Landscaping team worked alongside 125 Audible volunteers to fill the hexagonal flower beds with tall grasses, speckled coleus and colorful begonias. It was amazing to watch the Sensory Lab unfold with the help of numerous community partners. Watch the above video to get a sense of the completed project.

Throughout the summer, the Sensory Lab will host community partners in a variety of programming. From small events like children’s storytime to large events like Food Truck Tuesday and Newark Pride, there’s something for people of all ages! If it’s not already, be sure to add a visit to the Washington Park Sensory Lab to your summer bucket list!
