Fall Fun at the Conservancy!
by Amanda Gaglio
November 6th was our Conservancy Neighborhood HarvestFest!
What do you think of when the fall season comes around? Here at the Conservancy, we think of fall fun like apple picking, pumpkin carving, and our Conservancy Neighborhood HarvestFest! This fall, we decided to once again host a craft market and included many brand new vendors, farmers, and makers.
The Conservancy Neighborhood HarvestFest took place at our Outdoor Learning Center on Prince Street. With beautiful and warm weather, we opened our gates to 20 vendors and many community members. Vendors were local makers from Newark and other local communities who offered handmade goods like jewelry, bath and beauty products, baked goods, and fresh fruit and vegetables!
Some of our vendors included local farmers in partnership with Urban Agriculture Coop such as Pea Shoots and Co, along with John Ellis Honey, Growin' Folx, and Sprouts Juice. Visitors got to shop locally grown fresh produce, local honey, and delicious juices.
Java's Compost, a local organization that makes composting easier and more fun than ever, deputed their new pickup location-- the Conservancy's Outdoor Learning Center! Learn more about their composting program and how you can get involved on their website.
Shopping wasn't the only attraction! Urban Ag Coop, which runs an online farmers market--The Cooperative Market-- hosted their official grant signing ceremony in the garden. As the recipients of a grant from USDA NRCS, they will be working to help address various natural resource concerns and improve economic development and food access in Northern NJ.
Thank you to everyone who attended our HarvestFest. We hope you enjoyed all the garden activities, like nature collages led by Steam Urban and the live cooking demo from Chef Afi Green.
If you missed HarvestFest, don't worry! You can still shop all the vendors using the link below and stay tuned for our next Harvestfest!
