Newark Grows School Gardens Tour
Thank you so much to everyone for making this second year of the tour a success! It was wonderful to see the range of gardens across Newark that are all sites for powerful student engagement and learning.
We loved hearing from the scholars at Lincoln tell their stories of what they value about their garden program. Tasting cherries and smelling sweet compost at West Side was a treat. We were wowed by the community involvement and ongoing progress at Harriet Tubman. And the student-led extravaganza at Weequahic was a terrific culmination.
We have so much appreciation for our four luncheon speakers: Gina Schiano of LINK Community Charter School, Principal Brownridge-Smith from Thirteenth Avenue Elementary, Newark Board of Education school board member Kanileah Anderson, and Nicole Hewitt-Cabral from the City of Newark's Office of Sustainability. They each took time from their very busy schedules to shine a light on where they see the impact of school gardens. For those who support these special spaces through their dedicated labor, it is gratifying to know that the value is seen and celebrated.
